Parkside High School has a rich history of successful students and alumni in the arts, music, business, industry and sports. Students form a special bond with the school from a perfect blend of caring teachers and staff; a scenic location; and amazing friends. We frequently hear about multiple generations attending Parkside too.
And now we’re ready to celebrate 50 years!
A motivated committee formed in April 2009 and represents Parkside from every decade. They are working hard at planning an active, fun weekend with unique activities, for an expected attendance of over 2000 alumni and their families. The committee’s mission:
Honour Parkside High School's 50th Birthday by celebrating the friendships, relationships, and achievements of
the alumni and staff and create a legacy to inspire
and benefit Parkside students
200 new registrants on Friday sending our total registrations to nearly 1100
800+ attended the Pub and Dance
400+ students attended the Alumni Assembly and mentoring sessions
80+ played basketball and volleyball
100+ strolled through the Arts Exhibit
30+ ran the 5k. Congrats to Gord Aglor for coming in first
30+ walked the Nostalgic Walk around Dundas
Many were moved by the In-Memoriam rooms
60-100 people flowed through the Open Mic Music Lounge at the Collins
100+ attended the Picnic with their families
Special Announcements:
We're very pleased to announce that as a result of the last minute registrations, Silent Auction and sponsor support, we generated over $20,000 for the Parkside Legacy Fund. This fund will be managed to allow an annual award to a deserving Parkside graduate who has contributed to the life and spirit of Parkside throughout their time at the school. We're thrilled the first $500 award was presented at Convocation on June 29. Should Parkside close, the Parkside Legacy Award will continue to be managed through the School Board. It will go to a student who is a resident of Dundas regardless of the high school from which they are graduating. Thank you Parksiders for contributing to this important support students often need to help pursue their post-secondary education.
The gym was dedicated and will be renamed the Alex J. Furgal Gymnasium.
Silent Auction raised over $1200 for the Legacy Fund
Andrea Clasen won the 50/50 Draw. She split $650, with the proceeds going to the Legacy Fund.
Winning bidders will be contacted shortly to pick up and pay for your Silent Auction prize.
